Happy Accidents

What Would You Do For A Klondike Bar An iPhone?

It is a question that has an answer as amusing as it is disturbing.  In this age of instant gratification, rewarding narcissistic and addictive behaviors; I have often asked people that exact question.

Virgin Mobile’s latest commercial is about people who make, “Happy Accidents”, accidents that lead them to a new Virgin Mobile phone.  In this case, the phone is of course and iPhone.  With claims of “Unlimited Data and Messaging with no contract”; How far will some people go to justify leaving their contract with Mr. Big Time Wireless Provider?  While Many of them claim to have unlimited data and messaging, studies have shown the companies that actually lives up to their promises.  Can a no contract plan and an iPhone sweeten the deal?  Is it more cost effective for some to pay the cancellation fees and pay around $600 or so for a new phone from another service provider to have a “No contract”, agreement?  Virgin Mobile thinks so, and here is their comedic solution to stand out to grab your attention.  Let’s take a look at the comedic stereotypes Virgin Mobile would like to target.

T-Mobile: Alter Ego “No More Mr. Nice Girl”

Summary: Personae have been used for a long time when it comes to selling products and services. A persona’s purpose is to create an emotional connection with the customer to build loyalty and empathy. Persons are fictional characters created by companies, to connect with their customers, and to encourage them in contrast between their competitors.(jdn.org and usability.gov)

This year, T-Mobile has had a few upgrades after a tough year of getting bashed by competitors and customers alike. I’m not sure how well T-Mobile’s use of Persona’s has worked in the last days, but the Kathryn Rosita Jones replacement, Carly Foulkes, has kept T-Mobile noticeable on the screen. The pretty-gamer girl in real life, whom is not a big fan of the color pink, wears an assortment of lovely pink dresses. Fortunately for Carly, her T-Mobile persona, gets a makeover. “No more Mr. Nice Girl.”
