Samsung Galaxy S III

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. -Albert Eintein

Could this be Samsung’s underlying message to their envied series of commercials?

Samsung’s response to the iPhone 5 wasn’t as captivating as their first attempt at the iPhone 4s, which really made many iPhone lovers upset.  There was nothing really new in this next episode in Samsung’s series of, “The Next Big Thing is Already Here”. Samsung’s main message with this series is to show how ridiculous it is to wait in line for the next iPhone in hopes it will be very different and make your life so much better, somewhat the act of Insanity.  So I’ll do a short review on this one.

iJerk™ Meter: MEDIUM -Ridiculing another tribe of consumers; “Us vs Them” tactics.

Pros for content:

Feature display with disclaimer: ‘S Beam’

S-Beam: They showed a feature instead of just a bunch of talk. They two friends shared a playlist from one to another.  But how useful is that S Beam feature? Click the link to learn about the S Beam feature. Here is a link for you to learn how to use the S Beam feature to share files . It also reminds me of the “Bump” feature not too long ago. Either way, it’s a great way to instantly transfer info if the other person is set up for it as well.  According to the small print in the commercial, “Music Hub subscriber-to-subscriber, where available. S Beam requires initial connection between devices, must touch back-to-back to activate.”

The Frustrated Customer…In line, for the 5th time.

Waiting In Line Frustrations:  Eventually, customers do become frustrated waiting in line, the anticipation will die down.  I walked by a line once for the iPhone 4 and saw one store handing out snacks and drinks, and prizes.  In this commercial, they didn’t show that at all for obvious reasons, but also how common and frequent is such spectacular customer service?  I have talked to serial iPhone line customers and they have mentioned to me they have received a similar kind of service from the Apple Store. An About.com page with some in line experiences. Here is a page that lists some of the things that go on in line.  I’d like to hear your in-line experiences not only for the iPhone, but any other electronic you wait so long in line for.

Cons for content:

Font is too thin: I like the thickness at the end of the S II Commercial

The ending title’s font is too skinny, the one before in the S II Commercial was better.  I could be  a little picky, but maybe this was on purpose so the message would not appear as “bold” as before.

Summary:  In short, these immature low blow jab commercials like this, and I’m a Mac vs. PC ads really annoy me. They are not meant to teach us responsible behavior, but to appeal to our egos and addictive or compulsive behaviors. I often keep in mind this quote in my pursuits to bring awareness of the iJerk® complex to the masses:

“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
